Splashing About in the Maldives is a Dream

Splashing About in the Maldives is a Dream

The island group of the Maldives, situated in the Indian Ocean, is one of the most exotic places on earth. With its incredible blue seas and crisp white sandy beaches, each island is a mini paradise.

Residents and tourists enjoy unbroken year-round sunshine, with a long rainy and short dry season. This mix of the hot and the humid, stirred by cooling and calming sea breezes makes the Maldives simply the perfect place to enjoy water sports, whatever the time of year.

There are water-based activities for everyone, whether you want excitement or relaxation.

Diving In

If you want to check out the beautiful coral and extraordinary fish population then the plentiful opportunities for snorkelling and scuba diving are for you.

Snorkelling is the more sedate of the two activities and can be easily undertaken even by those with limited swimming skills. There are guides to advise and help you out at all the resorts, and equipment needed is minimal so it is something you can dip in and out of at your leisure.

Scuba diving is for the more adventurous but can be easily undertaken by those with no experience. In fact, with scores of diving schools the Maldives are the perfect place to learn. The highly accomplished diving instructors are all PADI licensed, which means that, once you have completed one of their courses, you will be able take your skills with you to dive anywhere in the world.

Catching the Wind; Riding a Wave

If scuba diving is still a little bit too sedate for you then the Maldives has a large selection of other adrenaline pumping watersports to sample. Surfing, powered by either the elements or an engine, are all popular here: from wave surfing and windsurfing, to wakeboarding, kitesurfing, and kneeboarding.

If you want to stay on the surface of the water for more than a few seconds there are a variety of vessels you can try out. Zoom around on a jet-ski; catch a breeze with a catamaran; or power yourself in a sea kayak.

If all-out silliness is more your thing, you might want to get together with a group of friends and ride a banana boat.

Perhaps the best way to discover the natural wonders that lie below the surface of the Maldivian waters is to book a trip with an underwater scooter. These motor powered machines give you all the breathing apparatus of scuba diving but require none of the leg work.

Taking it Easy

If getting in the water really isn’t your thing, or you just fancy a day off from aquatic exertions then the underwater spa might just get your vote. A world first, situated on the North Malé Atoll, this glass-walled sanctuary offers mind-blowing views of the underwater environment and all as you get pampered and treated like royalty.

What more could you want from a trip to a tropical paradise?
