Featured Creatures – In the open ocean near the reefs, pelagic animals – including manta rays, eagle rays, tuna and a variety of sharks (including whale sharks) frequent the Maldives. In shallow dives, the clear, bright water hosts a massive amount of sweet lips, parrotfish, groupers, snappers as well as turtles and moray eels.

The Water is very clear in the Maldives all year round and ideal for underwater Photography.

Snorkelling is very popular as there are shallow coral gardens in front of most resorts. It is suitable for young and old alike.

  • Old Friday Mosque

Dating from 1656, this heritage site holds the oldest mosque in the country. It’s a beautiful structure made from coral stone into which intricate decoration and Quranic script have been chiselled. A popular historic site among both locals and tourists in the Maldives.


  • Male fish market

One major tourist attraction in the Maldives is the Male fish market.  Stocked with a number of products such as fresh fruit and vegetables as well as fish, which is laid out on a clean ground for consumers to choose from, this market offers a wide variety of different foods from different parts of the country.


  • Grand Friday Mosque

The golden dome of this impressive modern mosque dominates the skyline of Male and has become something of a symbol for the city.  Built in 1984 with the help of neighbouring countries, set back off the main square, Jumhooree Maidan, and opposite the National Security Service Headquarters, it is the biggest mosque in the country.

  • Male Local Market

This is a market located in the capital city, Male, where locals come to sell souvenirs, local food, produce and clothing; however, specialising in fruits and vegetables.  Well organised and clean, it is a great place to visit on your morning travels around the capital. Situated near the beach, it’s a few minutes’ walk from Male Ferry Terminal station.

  • Manta Point

About 1km long, Manta point is a gathering point for manta rays during the north east monsoon season. The best time to see the mantas for which Manta Point is famous is from May to November.  The reef top is at 15 meters and on the western side of the Thila but rises to around 10 meters on the Eastern side.
