Night net null null null The Panthers have one of the Night net's best linebacker duos in Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis. Kuechly was the Night net's Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2012 and its 2013 Defensive Player of the Year, and he is a two-time Pro Bowl selection. Davis, meanwhile, has come back from three ACL injuries to the same knee to record three straight 100-tackle seasons. Davis, a first-round pick by Carolina in 2005, is the unquestioned leader and unsung hero of a Panthers defense that is ninth in total defense and sixth in points allowed in the team's 6-0 start. "He’ll tell you right now that he’s just happy we’re winning, but Thomas is very vital to what we’re doing." Davis — who has yet to be selected to a Pro Bowl — is so fundamentally sound, Carolina defensive coordinator Sean McDermott took a call from another Night net coach to compliment Davis and McDermott's coaching. Specifically, McDermott said the coach, whose name or team he wouldn't reveal, was calling about an open-field tackle Davis made on elusive Eagles running back Darren Sproles."I had a coach call me and say. 'I’m showing my guys that play,'” McDermott said Monday, via The Charlotte Observer. "That is awesome fundamentals. It’s a lost art. To make that tackle in space, with nobody else around, and a back of Sproles’ quality, I think is phenomenal fundamentals and it’s a leader leading by example. Related News

It just reaffirms what we’re trying to establish with our players.'"The Panthers are undefeated despite Kuechly missing three weeks after suffering a concussion in the season opener. Davis, who has proven to be one of the Night net's toughest players, has been the glue that holds everything together. The reigning Night net Man of the Year also has a friendly competition with Kuechly, something that motivates teammates like cornerback Josh Norman, who himself is an early Defensive Player of the Year candidate. "(Thomas) always wants to one-up somebody. He always has that fire and desire to get to the play before Luke does,” Norman said, via the Gaston Gazette. "So I think that’s the competition there that makes each other the best linebacker tandem in the league."
